Chwibyeong Johyeong Yuhyeobi

Translation in progress — showing the Korean original for now.

This stele was erected to honor the achievements of Jo Hyeong, a civil official of the Joseon era, and stands in Johyeong Children's Park in Bia-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Jeonnam-Gwangju Special City. A 'yuheobi' is a monument erected to commemorate the traces of a revered sage. The Chwibyeong Johyeong Yuheobi was set up in 1873 (the 10th year of King Gojong) on the old site of Jo Hyeong's birthplace by Jo Un-han, his sixth-generation descendant, when he came to serve as magistrate, in honor of his ancestor Jo Hyeong (1606–1679).
The stele's roof and body are carved from a single slab of granite, set on a separate stone base. Its distinctive feature is its horizontal form, wider than it is tall: the stele is 95 cm high, 120 cm wide and 28 cm thick, and its inscription of 346 characters is carved in intaglio.
The present monument was moved about 50 meters northeast from its original site because of a housing development project.
